Hi all,

does the new Context beta support the Berry Fontnames?
\setupbodyfont[pos,ber,12pt] or \setupbodyfont[pos,12pt]
results in an error message Times-Roman Font metrics not found.

Greetings

Lutz

I think in the new ConTeXt you should use something like
  \usetypescript[all][times][ec]
in order to use berry's fonts (at least this works for me).

I tried this:

\setupoutput[pdftex]
\useencoding[win]
\starttext
\usetypescript[all][times][ec]
ÄÖÜäöüß
\stoptext

but the resulting pdf only contains cmr12

Hi Lutz,

I wanted to post a similar message myself. Normally I use the Palatino font
family. After installing the Context beta version 2001.8.8, my files won't
compile anymore. The error was also related to Times Roman metric file not
found.

......
(d:/TEX/texmf/tex/context/base/type-exa.tex))
! Font \*10ptrmtf*=Palatino at 10.0pt not loadable: Metric (TFM) file not
found
...

According to the log file it happens after reading the type-exa.tex file. -
Only if I am commenting out the \setupbodyfont[ber,ppl,10pt] line then
Context runs smoothly (with CMR fonts).

Have a nice evening Willi

Really...
Add \setupbodyfont[pos] after \usetypescript[all][times][ec].

sorry, this doesn´t help, only the error message is slightly different
Context now looks for

There is a "ber" typescript, so it should work, but i tend to move away
from the berry names [some discussions at tug 2001 proved that i'm not
alone in this -)]

try:

   \setupbodyfont[ber,ptm]

this loads two typescripts and sets up times as bodyfont.

\definetypeface also loads typescripts, but normally needs an additional
font switch [since you cna have multiple typeface collections]

The old font setups are now simulated by typescripts, but better is to use
the \definetypeface command [namespace, faster]

make sure that either you load the map files by hand, or enable map file
loading,

it may be a bit messy in the beta's for now, but in the end ... more fonts
and more control

I gave texfont.pl a try but it complains about a bad texnansi.enc.

! first token in encoding must be literal encoding name
Encoding=TeXnANSIEncoding

Differs my texnansi.enc (CTAN) from yours?

Is there something:

/TeXnANSIEncoding [
/.notdef % 0

Also, how old is your afm2tfm ?

I downloaded a newer texnansi.enc from Y&Y and texfont works now for me.
Only the \loadmapfile command in the resulting testfile is ignored.
How can i repair this?

Greetings

see cont-sys.rme : you need to enable map file loading

It worked for me only if I added
  \setupencoding[default=ec]

Probably this is because typescripts use \defaultencoding which seems never
switching from 'default' to something else.

hm, depending on you rpreferences, in cont-sys.tex you can say things like:

\usetypescript[berry][ec]

\setupencoding[default=ec]

btw, the berry script does something:

\starttypescript [berry] [ec]

\definefontsynonym [ec-utmr8a] [ptmr8t]
\definefontsynonym [ec-utmri8a] [ptmri8t]

so, if you use texfont generated files, you don't need this

A new downloaded texnansi.enc file (www.YandY.com) works o.k.
