Dear friends,

I ran the tests exactly as you suggested. There is something wrong with a tmf font but I don't understand the message.

I also looked in the file cont-sys.tex and added the line \autoloadmapfilestrue. It does not make any difference.

Attached the test file and the log file.

Thanks again!

Kind regards,

Robert

Hello Robert,

! Font \*hudson12ptrmtf*:=ec-uplr8a at 12.0pt not loadable: Metric
  (TFM) file not found.

The message should be clear: TeX cannot find the metric file. There
are two reasons: either the name is incorrect or TeX's internal
database has not been updated after installing the tfm files.

There is something entirely wrong here. hudson12... should not get
mapped to palatino. How does your typescripts look like?

Hello Robert,

I think that is the same problem I had

add

\usetypescript [adobekb][\defaultencoding]

\definetypeface[hudson][rm][serif][palatino][default]
\setupbodyfont[hudson,12pt,rm]

to your code.

Tomething like this will work too:

\usetypescript [adobekb][\defaultencoding]
\usetypescript[palatino][\defaultencoding]
\setupbodyfont[palatino,12pt]

This was the final solution from Patrick last day.

Based on the number of problems reported here with fonts in TL2004/ConTeXt, and also based on my own experience, I believe someone should investigate this in detail and write a note in the WIKI explaining how to fix the problem. I am guessing that the new tree structure of TL2004 has caused the mess, but I am too novice to figure it out. One of the big-hitters (i.e., Hans & friends) should advice, please.

thank you

Ciro

Hello,

I have a problem with the figure database. If you have a short look in the
attached pdf you will see especially on page 3 (screenshot included) that the
figure is overlapping.

Thanks for your help.

As far as I can see, the font problems come down to only a few
different problems:

1) the standard fonts don't work -> use adobekb
2) my typescripts for my new fonts don't work -> ask here
3) pdftex doesn't find my mapfile -> write page for the wiki
4) other (more difficult) questions -> ask Adam L. :-)

So font problems are not all the same, and some already answered on
the wiki (although sometimes not complete).

textools --fixtexmftree (--force)

may help

another option is to take one of the minimal tex trees from our site (excepts of
tex live) and/or to adapt the texmf.cnf file to include all the paths you want
to be searched; there is a file

   context.cnf

in the distribiution

Hi Robert,

Context/pdftex is looking for a file ec-uplr8a.tfm, which is apparently
not on your system or not in the searchpath of kpsewich or it is not in
your mapfile. .

If you are using the minimal-distribution from Pragma, then you obtain
this file free of charge. If you use another distribution you will have
to install these files with texfont. See
\...\texmf\context\data\type-tmf.dat

I do hope this will help solving your problem

Hi Wolfgang,

I believe that there is nothing wrong with the result you have. The
overlapping picture just indicates how big it is compared to the A4 page
(white) in the background. Check the dimensions reported nect to the
picture :-(

Kind regards Willi

Hi Wolfgang,

as far as I can see there is nothing wrong with the result you have.
The overlapping picture indicates its dimensions compared to a A4 page
(white background). This is in accordance with the dimensions given of
your picture in the info section to the right. :-)

Thanks everybody.

I think we have come close to a solution...

I used the batch file Willy advised me. (Afm2tfm is interrupted, when called through texfont; I don't know why. Everything seems to work normally though.) It generates a lot of font files in a batch. Very handy, I must say!

After that I tried my test file again. Still the palatino font is still not found. I don't know anything about my hudson font.

I guess I still need your help, it's very much appreciated!

See the log fragments below.

Kind regards,

Robert

Hi,

if you just want to use palatino,
see the wiki: http://contextgarden.net/Psnfss

if anything else, please write what you want to achieve.

Hi Patrick,

Well, what I wanted is to install and use a new font called Hudson. It is a font that consists of just one file (hudson.pdf + hudson.afm).

I installed Hudson with texfont, but I got a serious error message. Apparently I need a line like this in my file:

\definetypeface[hudson][rm][serif][palatino][default]
\setupbodyfont[hudson,12pt,rm]

Then I got a cryptic error message which referred to the font ec-uplbi8a. Someone found out that the palatino font may not be correctly installed on my system, even though in Latex I don't have any problems.

Willi advised me run texfont on texfont.bat, which installs Palatino and a number of other fonts.

Nevertheless, still one palatino size (720) apparently is not available. (The pdf file that results is corrupted.) I guess that size has to be generated in some way or another.

Well, my goal still is to use the Hudson font, and palatino, of course. The suggestion in the Wiki does not work either, I'm afraid.

With the instruction
\usetypescript[palatino][\defaultencoding]
\setupbodyfont[palatino,12pt]

from the Wiki, the log file reads:

Warning: PDFETEX (file ec-raw-uplr8a): Font ec-raw-uplr8a at 720 not found
Output written on testhuds-con.pdf (1 page, 1869 bytes).

But this warning comes up whatever I do.

I am totally lost now.

Kind regards,

Robert

Dear friends,

I would like to let you all know that palatino works now.

What steps do I need to take now to get my Hudson?

Thanks in advance!

Robert

\setupoutput[pdftex]
\usetypescript [adobekb][\defaultencoding]
\usetypescript[palatino][\defaultencoding]
\definetypeface[hudson][rm][serif][palatino][default]
\setupbodyfont[palatino,20pt,rm]

\starttext

\input tufte

Hi Rob,

I see that struggling keeps going on.
As far as I can see you are able to use the palatino font through the
adobekb typescript. - Afaik you use now the files as used by e.g. LaTeX.
In order to come to use your Hudson font we need to be able to use the
verbose naming-scheme of ConTeXt.
From your previous mails I deduct, that pdfTeX can't find the font. Are
the mapfiles which are created by texfont added to the base-map-file
which is read by pdfTeX?

Hereafter this should work:

\setupoutput[pdftex]
\usetypescript[palatino][\defaultencoding] %ec?
\setupbodyfont[palatino,20pt,rm]

If this is solved you might try

\definetypeface[hudson][rm][serif][palatino][default]
\switchtotypeface[hudson][11pt,rm]

Kind regards

Willi
