Beste ConTeXt gebruikers,
M.vr.gr.,
Geert

Hans,
I've decided to send you the complete file (test.log)! You'll find it
attached!
I used the command: texexec --pdf test to produce it. By the way I'm
running Debian 3.0r Linux!

No, tetex-3.0 is official release, not beta :)

I'm afraid that I don't understand this! I'm not using Debian TeX, but
installed TeXLive Ed.9 (2003) on my Debian (3.0r) based Linux box.
Am I right in saying that an installation of ConTeXt from TeXLive is
incomplete? Do I really have to fetch the latest ConTeXt from PRAGMA ADE
to get those fonts working? Do I perhaps have to configure ConTeXt more
before being able to use those fonts?
Well fetching large files from Internet is very time consuming when
using a simple modem, which I do, with an average speed of around
4Kbytes/sec! So this isn't really an option.
Isn't it possible to create the missing tfm files, which ConTeXt uses,
from the fonts already present in /usr/TeX/texmf/fonts?
What if I install TeXLive 2004?

Geert

TeX Live 2003 is 1.5 year old distribution. It is very fresh for
(plain)TeX but mediaeval for ConTeXt. More over you can not combine TeX
Live 2003 with today ConTeXt (if you have no deep insight).
> What if I install TeXLive 2004?
Yes that is the solution (we have already recommended). Install TeX Live
2004 and (optionally) fresh ConTeXt (cont-tmf.zip).

normally that should work, however
- sometimes linxu distributions have preinstalled tex's or have the profiles
adapted for tex installations, and that may clash
- there have been some fundamental non compatible changed in the tex tree and
extensions to pdftex so it's best not to mix old and new, i.e. best to update to
the latest greatest

actually, when you would install the minumal tree, you could use rsync to
synchronize the differences and that is pretty fast

that should work ok; there is a special context tree on the dvd as well, with
all documentation and such so that saves you some bandwidth

Okay, I've removed my old TeX and installed TeXLive 2004 from CD. Your
test program works fine with the palatino font.
However when I try bookman the following error appears in the log file:
(/usr/TeX/texmf-dist/tex/context/base/type-pre.tex)
bodyfont : unknown variant bookman
The same happens with for example the charter font! Can this be caused
by the fact that I didn't install the Extra Fonts collection from
TeXLive 2004?
Regards,
Geert

see type-exa.tex for how palatino is defined; bookman is a stand alone font (no
math and such), so i didn't provide a preset for that,
\definetypeface[bookman][rm][serif][bookman][default][encoding=\defaultencoding]
\setupbodyfont[bookman]
is the kind of code you're looking for, so, you can combine all kind of fonts in
a typeface collection.
