If I start mfonts.tex with:

Hitting "s" at this point to scroll through the errors, the compile  
finishes and I have an mfonts.pdf. Of course, the Lucida stuff is  
missing.

So, I have the Lucida fonts. How should I install them with texfont?

That's a question for Hans or Adam, I think. I believe it was Adam
that posted a workaround yesterday or the day before. Did you see
that?
