Hi,
this is what texexec (latest version that i will upload) does with xetex:
--xetex --xtx : run xetex and process xdv file afterwards using xdvipdfmx
--xdv : run xetex and process xdv file afterwards using xdv2pdf
when using dvipdfmx, graphics are analyzed using
rlxtools --identify filename.suffix
which assumes imagemagick's 'identify' to be present (i can integrate
that in the resource log mechanism later); it will be run at runtime
when needed, otherwise users need to manually create the associated rli
files (i.e. whatever.jpg gets a whatever.jpg.rli file)
later i will look into a combination of specials
