I must admit this looks much better! Thanks.

The same approach can be used also for small caps, but the result is not so
appealing. Especially I don't like the size of the 'stopper' (dot).

Btw, that case conversion can be eliminated using
\setuplabeltext[en][chapter=CHAPTER~]
