later this year taco and i will have a go at it; some things are simpler 
nwo (esp fonts, since we have gyre and latin modern)

luatex is the follow up on pdftex and eventually permits us to go way 
beyond what now can be done

less important now, also because we have the tex gyre fonts (unless you 
use commercial fonts in combination with pdftex)
