I am using endnotes and footnotes. Is it possible to add navigation to
these, that is, when I am reading the PDF file I can click on a
endnote number, go to the endnote and when I click on the endnote
number there I get transported back to the location where it was used?

This works out of the box, afaik. Just do \setupinteraction[state=start]

Best wishes,
Taco

Indeed. Why isn't this on by default?

several reasons ... to mention a few:

- in some cases the output can be different (whatsit interference,
breaking long interactive refs, e.g. bold ref can influence linebreaks,
contents can have whole clickable areas)

- some features make no sense in print

- processing can be longer, files become bigger, etc
