Subject: ASCII mode within \footnote

Hello,
the following code doesn't compile:
----
\starttext
\startasciimode %@$\stopasciimode
A
\footnote{\startasciimode %@$\stopasciimode} % <<<< Try to comment
this
\stoptext
----
When the line with \footnote is commented, compilation works fine.
What's "evil" in \footnote{\startasciimode %@$\stopasciimode}?
Best regards,
Lukas
