hm, strc-reg.mkii has
 
{#1\ifcase\currententrylevel\s!entrya\or\s!entryb\or\s!entryc\else\s!entryd\fi}%

maybe you have a bugged version (core-reg.tex can also contain that code)

anyhow, replace the first \else by \or
