I now have this:
\newconstant\enumerationnumberstate % 1 == enabled
\def \enumerationsignalskip {-} % 0 == disabled
\def \enumerationsignalsymbol{+} % 2 == disabled but symbol
But it was worse (probably before you tested) as description was broken
due to 0/1 swapping. (but this functionality is not yet in minmals anyway).
