Hi,
I recently noticed a similar, maybe related problem.
Saving this

\starttext
\placefigure[middle]{none}{\externalfigure[hacker]}
\stoptext

in a file called "test.Fig.tex" leads to the luatex error mentioned
before. The same file without a dot in its name (testFig.tex) compiles
like expected.

Tested with ConTeXt ver: 2011.08.04 00:42 MKIV fmt: 2011.8.9 int:
english/english on Mac OS X 10.6.

Regards
Daniel
