you mean, as in

\definecounter [testnumber] [way=bytext,prefix=no]

\starttext

\incrementcounter[testnumber]

A \getcounter[testnumber]

\stoptext

That gives

! Undefined control sequence.

...

l.9 A \getcounter
                  [testnumber]

Did you maybe miss a file when you uploaded?
