using --once here is a bit tricky, multi pass info may itself lead to more
multipass info, so omitting a tuo generation can be a problem; just compare
the tuo files between jobs and you'll notice this effect; it's the same
with some pdf features: pass one determines the need for resources, pass
two now knows that they need to be added, while the thord pass know the way
they are referenced.
keep in mind that backgrounds are still a bit evolving; actually, the last
few days i patched some of the mp code; i will upload a new version later
