there is a complicated model in acrobat for grouping; in practice one can 
forget about much in the pdf specs since the complicated graphics will be 
made by dedicated programs; in tex/mp we only have to support what is used 
and useful.

should be possible [never used lab colors] once understood; mainly a matter 
of resource management;
