On
http://www.linmpi.mpg.de/english/services/software/latex/localtex/eurosymbol
.html
there's a brief explanation of the way the Euro can be implemented in LaTeX.
I got the big zipfile from
http://www.linmpi.mpg.de/english/services/software/latex/localtex/zipped/eur
osymbol.zip
and there's a whole bunch of files in there. Quite confusing to start with
but not surprising as there are several Euro packages shrinkwrapped into one
bag.
The AFM/PFB files need to be retrieved from yet another address:
www.adobe.com/type/eurofont.html
One of the packages is more purist and provides the sans serif Eurosign
which still changes along to its environment into normal, bold and
(bold-)italic like it should. The other one (europs.sty also morphs into a
serif symbol, a typewriter symbol et cetera which I like better.
A while ago I recall there was some discussion about the possible ways
someone could maybe develop a Euro solution for ConTeXt.
I wonder: is this simple to implement in ConTeXt today (for the clever guys
out here) since these Adobe files are there up for grabs anyway?
Groet,
Frans

Dear friends,
After an exchange with Giuseppe Bilotta on CTT, I am interested in trying out ConTeXt with Omega. How does one install the ConTeXt format under Omega? I know that the ConTeXt is compiled
with pdf-e-TeX, and that ConTeXt has hooks into features specific to that format. My situation is that I do a lot of multilingual typesetting under Omega using features not available in pdf-e-TeX. I am
would like to test the claim of ConTeXt's improved typesetting functionality over LaTeX in a multilingual context (mainly scholarly Arabic). I've looked at the install manual and did a standard install of
ConTeXt as well, but it's not clear to me exactly how to proceed to compile it under Omega 1.15. Has anyone tried ConTeXt-Omega before? Any reports?
Also:
1. While Omega itself will not support the pdfTeX and e-TeX extensions of ConTeXt, will dvipdfm at least support some of the pdf-related stuff in ConTeXt?
2. R there any documents which give a good comparison and contrast of LaTeX vs. ConTeXt? (But I thnk Giuseppe Bilotta 4 the comments he made on CTT)
3. I am totally new here & have never tried ConTeXt before, nor do I have much experience with iniTeX (since formats r usually loaded during installation of TeX) and am interested in any comments.
how-to's, or suggestions any of u may have in getting this to work.
Thnx in advance and best wishes
Idris

texexec --make --alone --tex=omega en
should do the job; i just tested this and found out that omega needs twice
as much main mem so you may need to increse the values in texmf.cnf)
Then a simple file
\starttext
does it work
\stoptext
with
texexec --tex=omega thisfile
should work

Thanks! I got it working. I'm reading the manual and I have a couple of questions:
I see that NFSS is not part of ConTeXt, but I don't quite get the new scheme. How do I convert
\fontfamily{mtnaskhi}\fontsize{14}{28}\selectfont
to ConTeXt syntax? I tried
\setupbodyfont{mtnaskh,14pt}
but cmr was still invoked. Is there an equivalent to *.fd files in ConTeXt? How do I set up a font family? In my case mtnaskhi is a family and mtnaskh is an OVF within that family
Another question: Is the article on Plain, LaTeX and ConTeX(t) by Wietse Dol en Erik Frambach available on line anywhere (thnx 2 Karel 4 the reference)?
Thnx again & Best wishes
Idris

I found the book: http://4tex.ntg.nl/4tex5/manual/.
Will a print or printable copy ever be available again (a la Eijkhout)?
Best wishes

see font manual (btw, this command uses [] instead of {})

you can add (uncomment) in cont-sys.tex:
adobe ones: \usesymbols[eur]
vogel one: \usesymbolset[mvs]
with respect to the adobe ones, you need to rename the funny adobe number
names to more meaningful ones (see symb-eur.tex)
[the symbols scale with the fonts, and the adobe euros with the font style too]

I have one cont-sys.* nin \tex\context\base but it doesn't have that entry,
just:
%%%%%%
% Enabling \CONTEXT\ navigation symbols as well as \euro's.
\usesymbols [nav,mvs]
\setupsymbolset [navigation 1] % not that clever
\setupinteraction [\c!symboolset=navigation 1]
%%%%%%
So I'll search for another more complete copy...
Groet!
