there is no real difference between them, placeformula just deals with the
number (maybe i should support an optional [] after startformula) [well,
the \place does reset subformulanumbers, so there is at least one side effect]
[in math-ini.tex you can see how to define yoru own math environments with
spacing and alignment options]
