This is strange, since here a grep gives me:

cont-new.tex:\to \beforeeverylinenumbering
page-lin.tex:\newtoks\beforeeverylinenumbering
page-lin.tex:   \the\beforeeverylinenumbering

so, this token register *is* defined, which means that you use an old 
format with a new cont-new; did you regenerate the formats (and run mktexlsr)?
