i think that this is now ok in the latest release (i had to take care of 
the active colon anyway)

hm, this should be no problem, unless some of those mpost mem problems is 
plyaing up, do you use the latest texutil?

otherwise, can you send me the minimal failing file?

(maybe this mpx env var is spoiling things)
