you can make it into a label (see lang-* files, and lang-lab) or use the
quick and dirty:

   \definemathcommand [gcd] [limop] {\mfunction{\translate[nl=GGD,en=GCD]}}

this will adapt itself to the language

This is a great idea. We could have a bunch of them predefined.
What about it?

in that case i would go for real labels and and the option of load 'm on
demand

so, if you collect them (actually, it would be nice to implement language
dependent math as well, since there are differences between countries other
than labels)

I leave it to you (being a mathematician) to coordinate this -)

I can only collect the Italian/English with respective
differences; others will have to contribute their native labels
...

Uhm. Ok, I'll try it. Do I put them in the lang-* file or shall we
create a separate file for this? In the latter case, would you
provide me with the skeleton of such a file?

lang-mat.tex

just use setuplabeltext, like in other lang files
