in that case, maybe we need:

in math-lbr:

   \definefamilysynonym [lbr] [ucgreek]  [mb]

and the 0++ range:

   \definemathsymbol [Pi]      [alpha] [ucgreek] ["05]

in type-syn:

   \definefontsynonym [MathBeta]      [LucidaNewMath-Roman]

Can you test if that gives you the right PI?
