actually there is a wrong definition, you can put this in cont-new.mkiv:

\unexpanded\def\startxmlinlineverbatim[#1]%
   {\begingroup
    \edef\currenttype{xml:#1}%
    \let\stopxmlinlineverbatim\endgroup
    \doinitializeverbatim}
