Use

\startlinealignment[middle]
    \startxtable
     ...
     \stopxtable
\stoplinealignment

or

\startplacetable[location={force,none}]
    \startxtable
     ...
     \stopxtable
\stopplacetable

Disable the normal frame and use a metapost background with
different values for all borders.
