Hello,

is there a Lua version of external figure locator used by \externalfigure?

Suppose having:

----
\setupexternalfigures[location={default,local,global},directory={../../Pics}]
\externalfigure[mill]                % Finds e.g. in d:\Ctx-Beta\tex\texmf-context\tex\context\sample\common\mill.png
\externalfigure[MyPrettyPicture.jpg] % Finds e.g. in c:\Lukas\Pics\MyPrettyPicture.jpg
----

And I need a function like:

----
\startluacode
   local path

   path = assert(ExternalFileLocator("mill") == "d:/Ctx-Beta/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/sample/common/mill.png")
   path = assert(ExternalFileLocator("MyPrettyPicture.jpg") == "c:/Lukas/Pics/MyPrettyPicture.jpg")
\stopluacode
----

So what to use in place of "ExternalFileLocator()"?

TIA.

Best regards,

Lukas

Hello Joseph,

thank you for reaction.

I guess:

- "figures.path' is a ConTeXt variable, is it?
- There are more extensions possible, not only .pdf. So how to access other extensions Ctx is to manage?
- I guess that 'lpdf.epdf.load(figure_file)' is just a .pdf loader - how to load other pics (like .png, .jpg, .svg...)?

Best regards,

Lukas

Hello,

a bit surprisingly no response so far.

Does it mean that no such a function exists?

If so, are there any Lua tables which provide list of current searching paths and list of image extensions which ConTeXt handles? (In both cases: in the place of use, as e.g. list of paths may change during use of \(setup)externalfigure(s) at various places in the source document.)

Joseph mentioned 'figures.path' for paths;
is there something similar for valid image extensions (like figures.extensions')?

If not, would it be possible to provide something like this?

- Just to explain: I need to perform some ops before inserting an image via \externalfigure. And I would need to be able to locate the file to be inserted, even when the picture is inserted by just a file name (with no path) with path specified before by \setupexternalfigures.

Best regards,

Lukas

manipulation plugins have been available for quite a while, just look
into grph-con.lua for examples (the test suite has some converter
examples too)
