I am not sure what you mean by "the macro".
Do you mean it like this? :
\def\MyNoteList#1#2#3{\startWhatANote{#1}#2#1\quad#2\endgraf\stopWhatANote}
Or should I add it to this - but I don't know how/where:
> \long\def\MyNote#1%
> {\ifhmode\unskip\fi
> \doglobal\increment\MyNotes\relax
> \high{\MyNotes}%
> \expanded{\writetolist[MyNoteList]{\MyNotes}}{#1}}

no, the other one, the one that is hooked into the list placement (the one
with three arguments #1#2#3)
