I'm on OS-X 10.6 and using the newest beta.

I tired again, the result is the same error.

If I run the test file from my initial post:

\definefont[test][name:minionpro-regular] % font is not in TeX-tree
\starttext
\test Hallo Welt, das ist ein Test
\stoptext

the error message is more verbose, perhaps it can help.
