Over a year ago I looked into xindy and even discussed (at eurotex in france) it with the authors. The thing missing is attributes, and since context supports multiple indexes, interactive ones, global but also local, I need to be able to select on for instance a per section basis. This is why the current xindy is not yet an option. At the xinsy list there was a remark of the author that he lacked time and was in search of someone who could take over, which makes it tricky to look into it now. Some day I will pick up the thread.
