What is the official way to type the ConTeXt logo? Personally, I like

{\sc Con\TeX{}t}

but I need to get the \TeX{} done in small caps. I could program this but I'm
not sure what the best parameters are. Knuth in Digital Typography (181--182)
gives the TeX logo parameters for 10 of the cm fonts but not for small caps.
Has anyone here done this? Any other suggestions?

Best wishes
Idris

Ok, thnx, but I'd still like to see \TeX in small caps:-) I suspect the logo
will look nicer that way.

that is not official :)

ok, here are my .02 EUR.

1: \CONTEXT

2: {\sc C\kern -.0667emo\kern -.0667emn\kern -.0549emt\kern -.1667em\lower .5ex\hbox {e}\kern -.125emx\kern -.0549emt}

3: Con\TeX t

4: {\sc Con\TeX{}t}

5: {\sc Con\TeX t}

6: {\sc Cont\kern -.1667em\lower .5ex\hbox {e}\kern -.125emxt}

1) original. The letters are already a bit kerned. Since the TEX is
   close together, it does look ok as a single word, but not so much
   in running text.

2) my definition of a sc-variant (if I had to make one). It is (like
   1) kerned, but I think that this is necessary. But not really nice,
   either. But imo the letters cannot be spaced more, because the TEX
   would be too emphasised.

3) Let us not talk about this one...

4), 5) the T at the end is too far away it falls off. An alternative:
{\sc C\kern -.0667emo\kern -.0667emn\kern -.0549emT\kern -.1667em\lower .5ex\hbox {E}\kern -.125emX\kern -.0855emt}

6) also kind of ok, but it just does not look right.

They all apply to cmr (cmcsc) 10 scaled at 12 pt.

I think that 2) has the most potential. \CONTEXT just does not work; it's too
long and appears rather ``forced''. \LaTeX has that raised `A' to add
balance. In the 2nd option, the height of the capital `C' appears to balance
the lower `E', and the small caps subdue the feeling that the thing is too
long. Maybe some subtle changes would help, but I like (2 and will use it if
Hans doesn't sue me:-)

Best wishes

Here's another, philosophical reason I like a logo based on 2):

Compared with LaTeX, ConTeXt is (or at least certainly aims to be) so much
more than a mere macropackage. Placing \TeX in small caps reflects this
relative role of TeX to the whole system compared to its role in LaTeX.

There is an article in the TUG '98 conference proceedings about
"visual debugging in TeX". In the text there is a context logo which
is either \sc or scaled down (I think it is the latter). The author
should know and might share this knowledge with us :). It is---what a
coincidence---the same author that wrote the favourite TeX macro
package we all use.

ok, i agree that subtle spacing is important.

(i will look into the logo later, bit busy now)
