There seems to be no option for \setuptyping[indentnext=...] following the TeX convention to indent new paragraphs, as followed by a blank row, but not otherwise.

Are you looking for the auto option of the indentnext key?

Look into setup-en.pdf for a (nearly) complete list of all key/values.
