Hi Robert,
although you don’t mention it, I guess you need it for MkII:
\showframe
\setuppapersize[A6, landscape]
\setupnotedefinition[footnote][location=serried, distance=1em]
\starttext
a\footnote{This is a footnote.}
b\endnote{This is an endnote.}
\placenotes[endnote]
\stoptext
