Confirmed. By testing i, your example is compiled:
if i then -- line 1205 in font-otj.lua
local leftkern = i.leftkern
if leftkern and leftkern ~= 0 then
setfield(prev,"replace",newkern(leftkern)) -- maybe also leftkern
end
end
