I managed to solve the problem. The command used on t-vim.tex used --noquote
instead of --quotes .

D'oh
However, can you also check if the latest version works (see my
tex.stackexchange answer for details). Now I am using mtxrun --direct and
IIUC, --noquotes is not needed.
