In the past I have used the chart module for a little flow chart in a
presentation. I wanted to make again flow charts. But I did not get it
working. I just compiled my old version again, but this does not work
also. The chart is drawn, but the boxes and lines are invisible. That
is not very usefull. What could be the problem?
When executing 'texexec --check' I get:
MTXrun | kpse fallback with progname 'context' initialized in 0.03 seconds

As a side note: is it possible to generate a JPG file instead of a PDF

Below the stripped down version of the code.
Write 18 was not enabled. I enabled it, but still I do not see the
boxes and the lines.

I took this code from the internet. So I suppose this should work.
\usemodule[chart]
\starttext
\startFLOWchart[cells]
\startFLOWcell
\name {first}
\location {1,1}
\shape {singledocument}
\text {not really a document}
\stopFLOWcell
\stopFLOWchart
\FLOWchart[cells]
\stoptext
But it gives:
http://www.decebal.nl/ConTeXt/flowchart.pdf
The log file created is at:
http://www.decebal.nl/ConTeXt/flowchart.log
The only things I see that could mean something are:
systems : no file 'cont-sys.tex', using 'cont-sys.rme' instead
pdfTeX warning: pdftex: no GlyphToUnicode entry has been inserted yet!
But I do not know if that is a problem.
The pfd is made with:
texexec --automp flowchart
Without the --automp I get a message about mpost.

this is harmless but you can copy the file cont-sys.rme to cont-sys.tex
and tweak its content

Is mpost run or not? Your code looks ok and generates an image here, so
it looks like mpost is not run on your system.
For the moment forget about --automp as it only makes sense as speed
optimization.
- double check if write18 is enabled in the used texmf.cnf file
- make sure that there is a metafun format (texexec --make metafun)

I tried to make it after running 'texexec --make metafun'.
It is still not run. I get:
systems : begin file flowchart at line 3
(./flowchart-flw-1.tmp) (./flowchart-flw-1.tmp) (./flowchart-flw-1.tmp)sh:

Trying alias mpost=/home/cecil/ConTeXt/tex/texmf-linux/bin/mpost does not
make a difference.

I read somewhere to use it when having a problem with mpost. And I do not
get a message when using it. But I forget about it.

You pdftex is from texlive, but you do not have a metapost executable from
texlive. Either install metapost in texlive or use minimals (You already
seem to have the minimals installed. You need to run "source
~/ConTeXt/tex/setuptex" to add the minimals' binaries to the path).

Yes, that gives:
Sorry, I can't find that mem file; will try PLAIN.
I can't find the PLAIN mem file!

that's real weird
in the tex live cnf file I see
shell_escape_commands = \
bibtex,bibtex8,\
kpsewhich,\
makeindex,\
repstopdf,\
and for some reason mpost is not in there, can you check that?
(or set shell_escape = t instead of p)

I only find the following .cnf files:
ConTeXt/tex/texmf-context/web2c/context.cnf
ConTeXt/tex/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf
Both do not contain shell_escape_commands.
They have:
shell_escape = t
%openout_any = a
openout_any = p
openin_any = a
parse_first_line = f
allow_multiple_suffixes = f
Do I need to make a texlive.cnf file?

so you have only minimals ... and there all is set up to run mp runtime
strange that no one else has this problem of not finding mpost in the

Proberly something wrong with my installation, but that is only part
of the problem. I installed ConTeXt on another computer. Here
metapost is found, but still when trying to create a flowchart, only
the text is generated. It is reproducable. When giving:
\usemodule[chart]
\starttext
\startFLOWchart[cells]
\startFLOWcell
\name {first}
\location {1,1}
\shape {singledocument}
\text {not really a document}
\stopFLOWcell
\stopFLOWchart
\FLOWchart[cells]
\stoptext
To http://live.contextgarden.net/, then there is also only text.
And when I take from http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Flow_Charts:
\usemodule[chart]
\setupFLOWcharts[height=3\lineheight]
\startFLOWchart[example]
\startFLOWcell
\name {flow}
\location {1,1}
\text {Flow}
\connection [rl] {chart}
\stopFLOWcell
\startFLOWcell
\name {chart}
\location{2,1}
\text {Charts}
\stopFLOWcell
\stopFLOWchart
\FLOWchart[example]
And feed it to http://live.contextgarden.net/, I also only see text
and not the flowchart itself.

contextgarden does not have write18 enabled. So, to get MP graphics, you
need to add
\runMPgraphicsfalse
on the top of your file.
In the minimals, write18 is enabled, so you do not need that line. I do
not know why metapost is not part of your minimals installation.

Hi all,
As a matter of fact with any document using the chart module, mkii stops with
\wait=
This happens with the following minimal test, for example:
%%% begin bug-chart.tex
\usemodule[chart]
\startFLOWchart[cells]
\startFLOWcell
\location {1,1}
\text{This is just a test}
\stopFLOWcell
\stopFLOWchart
\starttext
\FLOWchart[cells]
\stoptext
%%% end bug-chart.tex
However with mkiv, everything is fine.
For you information, I tested the above with the Minimals, ConTeXt ver: 2010.11.18 19:47 MKII fmt: 2010.11.19 int: english/english, on MacOS X 10.6.5.
Best regards: OK

Found the problem. The first time I used ConTeXt it was not in the
repository and I downloaded it. Now it is and I installed it from the
repository (openSUSE). But when doing this metapost is not installed.
So I installed texlive-bin-metapost and texlive-metapost. Now it
works.
Are there any other packages that would be smart to install?
