extra spacing

With math followed by a \crlf extra spacing is introduced in the math.
For example:
		Test
		\crlf
		(1) inverse $b\rightarrow b^{-1}$
		\crlf
		(2) inverse $b\rightarrow b^{-1}$\hfill\null
		\crlf
		(3) inverse $b\rightarrow b^{-1}$

In line (1) extra white is introduced around the white arrow.
In line (2) the fix is given, allthough not a problem ii is a nuisance.
In line (3) one sees it is the \crlf that lets the math expand because 
here no extra white.

Is this a feature or has this phenomenon escaped attention hitherto?

it's always hard to tell what is a feature, somehow there is quite some 
stretch around the arrow in math

the \crlf macro has to work ok in ragged(left|center|right) and i guess 
that you're using a ragged right text

you may try the following definition (case 3 \hfil added):

\unexpanded \def\crlf
   {\ifhmode\unskip\else\strut\fi\ifcase\raggedstatus\hfil\or\or\or\hfil\fi\break} 


let me know if this breaks other alignments
