Note that TeX translates normal (upright) letters into italics, whereas Unicode has special characters (code points) for the mathematical italics styles. If one wants to use those Unicode mathematical styles directly in the input for ConTeXt, one should add:
  \setupmathematics[lcgreek=normal, default=normal]
