Also it seems that instead of
\reference[hook] referenced...
one has to put
\reference[hook]{} referenced...
^^^^
since otherwise in the resulting typeset "referenced..." becomes
"eferenced...".
Is this the normal use of the command "\reference[xxx]" ?
