Thanks for this quick enhancement, works now! Just for completeness: How do I change the distance between bullet and item text in your original suggestion? Adding 'width=' here does not change anything:

\setupletterdescription
 [enclosure]
 [
    location=top,
    leftmargin=1em,
    width=5pt,
    symbol=bullet
 ]
