HI,
just downloaded the beautiful fonts-MKIV manual onto my Android 7" tablet
(inexpensive Samsung) and it displays quite well both with Adobe Reader and
the Kindle reader. with Adobe reader all hyperlinks work great and there
is no comparison to the Kindle as a pdf reader. Kindle is nice for reading
and navigating through pages with horizontal scrolling, but you loose all
cross-links and hyperlinks.

Congratulations for the great work.

fixed in next upload ... somehow spacing is suboptimal in xits (it looks
better in cambria, lm and pagella)

i fear that the resolution is not good enough for the examples ... we
would need real narrow tt and very small examples

(i did consider an electronic version but lack time now)

I have to say that I am *very* impressed.

1. Aesthetically, this seems to be the most beautiful of ConTeXt
manuals.

2. I've only read half a page, but the style also seems to be very nice
- the introduction was just great.

3. From the number of pages and the table of contents I assume that
I'll be able to learn a lot about fonts from this - and that's great!

Now the file has been sent to my Kindle, and the only thing I'm afraid
of is the reading experience on 6"... Hans, I know that you don't like
(today's) ebook readers, but what about preparing a version with larger
fonts/smaller margins for us Kindle users? Given the typographical
quality of most Kindle ebooks, you may assume that when we read on
a Kindle, we don't care too much about aesthetics (which, btw, is
incomprehensible for me: the technology to typeset text automatically
in an (at least) decent way (including hyphenation) has been around for
some 30 years, and yet they didn't manage to do it right...), so you
might just change a few things in \setuplayout etc. and throw it into
the net...

There seems to be a problem with the typesetting of primes (on page 104)
regarding multiple primes, more exactly regarding \utfchar{0x...}

Ab better way for most normal unices is to use

#!/usr/bin/env ruby

But that does not seem to be your problem

Here is the question if the local directory is part of your path

To run commands savely from a local directory use

./texsync.rb

Nothing, but ... The problem is that the shbang line (#!/usr/bin/ruby)
doesn't work if you have a "\r\n" instead of "\n".

Try `dos2unix texsync.rb` then it should work.

Hans
ruby texsync.rb --update --tree=doc --force
--destination=/Users/Shared/Context/

Gets me the manuals

I think on UNIX the first line of the script should look like
#!/usr/bin/ruby

However I tried this and then
[Nigel-Kings-G4-Lap:~/bin] nigelk% texsync.rb
texsync.rb: Command not found.

I am not sure what is reporting this because texsync.rb is executeable and
is in the path and anyway I am in that directory.

Confused

Hi Nigel,

you can start the script as a parameter to ruby:

bash-2.05a$ ruby texsync.rb --update --force --destination=/tmp/textest

or you add a line to texsync.rb (has to be the first line) to tell your
unix which interpreter to run:

#!/usr/bin/ruby

then you can start it simply with:

bash-2.05a$ texsync.rb --update --force --destination=/tmp/textest

Hope this helps,

felix

Hans,
I have read this manual.
Downloaded texsync.rb and put it into my personal bin location.
I have ruby.
I have made texsync.rb executable chmod +x texsync.rb.
The commands still don't quite work as required - any hints.

Terminal listing
----------------
[Nigel-Kings-G4-Lap:~/bin] nigelk% which ruby
/usr/bin/ruby
[Nigel-Kings-G4-Lap:~/bin] nigelk% ruby --version
ruby 1.6.7 (2002-03-01) [powerpc-darwin6.0]
[Nigel-Kings-G4-Lap:~/bin] nigelk% texsync --update
texsync: Command not found.
[Nigel-Kings-G4-Lap:~/bin] nigelk% texsync.rb --update
Running /Users/nigelk/.cshrc
: Command not found.
require: Command not found.
: Command not found.
print: Command not found.
: Command not found.
directives: Command not found.
helpinfo: Command not found.
default: Too many arguments.
----------------
So what am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I uploaded the (preliminary) manual on color separation (+ a few ntk's):

  http://www.pragma-ade.com/manuals/general/msplit.pdf

this morning i also uploaded a beta version that does these kind of things
(although for the moment i keep some possibly dangerous optimizations in my
local extension file)

Hi Frans,

Concerning the screen displacement in the manual, it is related to what
you encounter: I mapped the page layout onto A3 (this was needed for
dvipsone and distiller) At the same time I did center the page layout
(but due to a type not in the english one). The solution is simple: use
the same page size as print size.

(BTW, in this respect pdftex is not conforming ps and therefore not to
dvi to ps drivers; this is rather annoying, but in context I get around
is as good as possible. It has to do with a change in concept: paper to
screen, boundingbox an clipping box etc etc).

Anyway, I'm now regenerating the dutch one. Takes some time to the 1000+
real time generated graphics and slow telephone lines ...

Hans
