Not sure if I understand the problem correctly. You could try

ahlength := 20;
linejoin := mitered;
drawarrow origin--(40,0) withpen pencircle scaled 5;

\startMPpage[offset=1cm]
ahlength := 20;
linejoin := mitered;

Compile with context.
