Dear list members,

I am trying to get the following with the 1 elevated and 2 above the =
character. The square brackets and all in between I would like italic and
OPT below both terms.

*\startparagraph [.1..] [..,..2=..,..] ..**.\stopparagraph*
Would anybody be able to help. Would Metapost be needed here?
