extra chars at beginning of document

Hello,

Having just installed ConTeXt (NT, MikTeX), I found a strange thing in
the produced document (BTW, everything worked fine on Unix, this
appears only on my NT installation) from the install notes. I mean,
texexec'ing a file containing

\starttext
\framed{blabla}
\stoptext

I get extra "(2)"'s before my text.
What I actually get is 

   (2)(2)(2)(2)(2)(2)(2)(2)(2)(2)(2)
   blabla

(with blabla framed, of course). 
I tried several other mini documents, and the two's appear randomly.
The output is:

maybe something is corrupted, you can fetch the beta from our site if needed

update your pdfetex to 1.0

I get the two's alone indeed. I don't think my ConTeXt stuff is
corrupted, because the same files, installed on my NetBSD partition,
worked perfectly. I suppose the problem comes from either MikTeX or
Cygwin.

I hade the same problem, and I discovered that it is due to the cygwin
version of perl.

If you use emacs to open the <jobname>.tuo file you can notice extra ^M at
the end of each line.

Well, this does seem to be the problem, but I haven't been able to fix
it. To check whether the \r characters were doing some mischief, I
compiled a file, say (file.tex)
\starttext
This is a test
\stoptext

Then I removed the \r characters from the file.tuo, and compiled again
with texexec --once file.tex. The result was that there was no twos.
However when the same process was done _without_ removing the
characters from file.tuo, the twos were present.

Unfortunately the problem has persisted even when I used Active state's
perl. Any suggestions?

Thanks. Indeed the two's are because of cygwin version of perl.
Uninstalling it, and then installing Activestate activeperl does remedy
the problem.
