Is there any downloadable copy of the Context Garden site that is not
on the Context Garden website?
At my school unfortunately we don't seem to be able to get through to
context garden wiki. But trying to get into ConTeXt would likely be
much smoother with access to the information.
Any help is appreciated.

I think you need help from the network administrator at _your_ side.
Start at least to describe what you (can) see from
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Main_Page
Mmm, that is allready the URL that you get after going
to http://www.contextgarden.net
Could it be that you are behind
(something like a) webproxy that can't cope with redirects???

This is what is returned from the proxy:
ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved
While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.contextgarden.net/
The following error was encountered:
* DNS name lookup failure
The system returned:
DNS Domain 'www.contextgarden.net' is invalid: Host not found
(authoritative).
This means that:
The named host probably does not exist.
Generated by squid/1.1.21@proxy.lambton.on.ca
This is confirmed by the telnet connection I have tried that is not
behind the proxy. I have also tried the ip address and it isn't even
able to get there.

Jeff

Yuo can try http://wiki.contextgarden.net directly, maybe?

Some server along the way is lying, because the host definately does
exist (it has IP 83.151.27.139), and its authoritive nameservers
report the information correctly.
The authoritive nameservers are:
;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
contextgarden.net. 38400 IN NS nameserv2.vollmarnet.com.
contextgarden.net. 38400 IN NS nameserv2.vollmar.net.
;; ADDITIONAL SECTION:
nameserv2.vollmarnet.com. 3600 IN A 83.151.25.2
nameserv2.vollmar.net. 2849 IN A 83.151.24.66

Okay, noticed.
Next thing to do is that _you_ fix the network setup at _your end_

I have no understanding of what the problem is to know even what to
say to the network guys. Could you possibly put forth some hints about
possibilities?
Is it any coincidence that gnustep.org and contextgarden.net are both
unaccessible?

Print this E-mail and bring it to the network guys.
They will read this from top to bottom (people tend to read in that
order) and will known what to do ( yes, I assume that a network
administrator is worth it's money )

You definitely haven't seen our network administators. The proxy we run:
Generated by squid/1.1.21@proxy.lambton.on.ca
This version is from 1997 at best. Not many people have a great deal
of faith in them.

1. As Geert hinted: Email should be readable top to bottom.
2. If your network admins aren't worth their money, complain to their
boss and let them fire.
3. We can't help you any further. It's a problem of your network/
proxy/DNS, but none of any of us.

there are quite a few vulnarabilities for squid this old, hint hint :)
but a banner is only a banner, don't forget that. maybe your admins are
much more trickier than anticipated :)
indeed. a quick nmap reveals that the machine could very well be a fortress...
-ok, so i presume you can't turn off the proxy...
if you can access http://www.dnsstuff.com/ you could test
that others are able to resolve the contextgarden.net domains.
-i also presume that you tried to access using the ip number...
-you could try to use the google cache... e.g.
http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:2s7Cg-h7AcwJ:wiki.contextgarden.net/Main_Page+contextgarden&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1
but of course, this is a cache... so some stuff will be outdated.
-you could try going thru a web anonymizer..
still, doens't make sense for me - filtering contextgarden.net
there isn't even a dirty word in the url :)
best of luck,
