This is because of the naive way in which I have implemented line 
numbering.

If you do not need linenumbering, remove \strut from the definition of
    \def\obeyedline{\placevimlinenumber\par\strut}%
in  \initializevimtyping.

I will try to clean up the vim module. The whole thing can be done much 
more cleanly in lua.
