There was a bug in math-vfu.lua, for which I gave a patch in my previous email. If you apply that patch to math-vfu and then regenerate formats, ${\bf A}$ will give upright bold math. If you do not want to patch math-vfu on your own, wait for the next beta by Hans. This will not work with bold greek letters or bold operators.
