I only very recently updated from

ConTeXt  ver: 2005.01.31

to 

ConTeXt  ver: 2009.08.19 17:10 MKII 

Previously, using env-assign.tex as described in a 2006 PracTeX
article worked fine. With the new version the drop shadow box is not
rendered.
