I can do: \doifmodeelse{\s!mkii} {\let\ReadFilter\ReadFile} {\def\ReadFilter#1{\doreadfile{any}\empty{#1}\donothing\donothing}} but, I wanted to avoid such things if possible :-/ (BTW, why is system mode *mkii not set in MkII?)
