Interesting use of \xypos to get the correct positioning. However, since
\mframed comes inside the \hbox, this mechanism does not inherit the
mathstyle:
\startformula
\sum_{i=1}^5 f_i(x)
\mcframed{\sum_{i=1}^5 f_i(x)}
\mframed[location=low]{\sum_{i=1}^5 f_i(x)}
\stopformula
Should this replace the current mathframed mechanism?
