Hi,
while it’s too late for this year’s conferences, I’d like to have some
nice ConTeXt, MetaPost or general TeX stickers for next year’s.
Do you have ideas?

Find attached an example by Moss.

I would say: Don't use this one. This sticker could be interpreted as having a sexual connotation and that is not the way (excuse the Mandalorian).

The sexual connotation is intentional, of course. Apparently not
everyone’s kind of humor.

Please phrase your reaction differently. This is absolutely not about my sense of humor. But if you have observed the news media these last few years, you may have noticed how sensitive the public opinion has become about "humor" of this kind. I am afraid it could place the Tex community (for which I care) in a less favourable light.

The TeX community, mostly consisting of LaTeX users, is joking about
LaTeX vs. latex all the time. At least the part of the community that
meets at open source conferences and hacker camps.

Looking at other stickers I guess hacker humor is often a bit crude or
pubertal. <shrug>

I didn’t say we should print this design – Moss or maybe DANTE will.
I’d like to have some interesting/funny stickers to promote ConTeXt (and
MetaPost/MetaFun). And while I like the Dodo, it’s a MkII joke and I
won’t stress it even more.

I must say I agree with Hans van der Meer here. For me, this sounds like
middle school humor; I can't imagine any actual grown-up finding this
funny. But I'm overall not convinced that such stickers make our world a
better place. They have a tendency to wind up in places where you don't
want to see them. So my two cents on your question: don't. They're worse
than useless.

indeed, and there are reasons why we stayed away from fancy websites,
merchandizing, monetizing, adds on websites, statistics, likes, upvotes

Dear gang, Henning,

That sample is... both culturally tasteless and aesthetically unpleasing.

Why not build on one of Duane Bibby's classic lions? -)

Best wishes

Hey, I’m just trying to change the status of ConTeXt as "the best TeX
system that is but nobody knows". And I want to have fun with it, like
everyone. Doesn’t need to be the same fun. But ok, I won’t try to speak
in the name of ConTeXt (group/community) again.

When we started our studies of Arabic - this was back in the eighties - our department distributed stickers with the text: ‘Arabists do it from right to left’.

We thought it was funny, and I still do!

Robert

One could put "I stick to Context" or "I'm stuck with Context" on a
bumper sticker -)

It is the best one absolutely. I never regretted to have abandoned
LaTeX a long time ago!

Indeed, those old enough, would remember that the book « The Joy of TeX, a Gourmet Guide to Typesetting with the AMSTeX Macro Package » by Michael Spivak was written as a parody of « The Joy of Sex: A Gourmet Guide to Lovemaking » appeared in 1972…

only by texies who don't know that they are pronounced differently and
i bet the publisher of the latex companion preferred a rather boring
cover over a more tantalizing one but it would have made a nice experiment

i hope it's not the only joke they make about tex as there is plenty to
joke about (the) tex (community)

for years we used the excellent yandy(tex) dvipsone postscript backend
and pretty good dviwindo viewer (that had hyperlink support, which is
why we had pdf hyperlink working in a day after acrobat 1 showed up)

but googling for yandy was not helpful for their marketing i guess

So, did that became a best seller then? It could explain why there are
some folk always complaining about the context manuals.

Hans

Here's my suggestion for a sticker that we can't use. ;-)
