If there isn't but someone's going to create one now, please do so

Well, depends what you mean by active.
There is no discussion in the channel, but there are usually one or two
[me ;)] in the channel.
Since yesterday we are three.

You need the ChatZilla plugin, then it will open in firefox:
http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/chatzilla/
(Click on install 0.9.70 in the bottom right)

With IRC or Internet Relay Chat you join a so-called channel on a
server; every line one types is instantly visible to the others in the
channel and vice versa, which makes question-answer discussion quite fast.

No, it is not. There's no reason for Freenode to exist. It's just a
bunch of "reimplementers" who wanted their own chatnet...only gimpnet
is lamer. EFNet has always worked fine, is well-established, has
servers world-wine, and then some people think, "hey, lets create
another DALnet but with a free-software attitude"...

Just my incredbly unhumble opinion...

Wow. Sorry. I really flew off the handle there. I hope no one was
too offended. I really didn't mean to get off like that. I need to
start leaving my mail in "Drafts" a while before sending them off. I
guess I had a stranger opinion about Freenode than I myself realized.

Again, sorry for lashing out like that.

Hello Renaud,

I usually hang around in #ConTeXt at Freenode, and, say 99.9% of the
time since last summer there has been nobody there. However, recently
people started to show up. We were three some day ago.

My client lillpelle is usually active. But now I am at work...

See you soon!

/Micke P

IRC= Internet Relay Chat
You need an irc client in order to log in and chat. I'm a beginner in
irc and I use the BitchX client (linux). For windows, there is mirc, etc.
It seems interesting to me to have the possibility to chat directly
about burning issue with ConTeXt guru or simple users like me...

Maybe we can add a section in contextgarden about #context irc channel
and a mini howto irc.freenode.net#context ? Your opinion ?

I have never participate to the wiki but I can write a #context
minihowto if you're agree and if some people are interested...

Hi all,

Since a #context channel exists on irc.freenode.net, we can use it, no ?

sounds ok to me; however, we must make sure that if solutions show up in the chat, that they get posted to the list/wiki when they're useful for others

Hi Hans, all,

I think obviously that the IRC channel is usefull for direct chat but
the pertinent solutions due to #context will be reported to the mailing
list. The keyword seems to be complementarity since #context permits us
to discuss about ConTeXt more openly. Anyway, when one needs tex source
analysis, the mailing list is the best place.

For those who use Firefox (like me or Hans :-) ), I have seen that there
is an extension for IRC : Chatzilla

For the wiki, I will write the #context minihowto asap...
