I used mm instead of inches because my ruler shows me millimeters, and I
tried several sizes, until the above hacks got the the A5 page as bnest in
the middle as I could get it.

 HH> \stelinteractiein[status=start]

It took me a few seconds before I realized I was to use ONE of the above
lines, depending on the language that I was using ;=} First I got four
lines saying "NON-PFD special ignored!" but when I cleaned up my .TEX file
things worked without eror messages. The looks of the PDF file are much
the same. What difference should the \stelinteractiein[status=start] have
made?

PS: when I compile, I get fast messages flashing by, saying "warning" and
axplaining that in the .map file, a lucida font is already defined. Are
such error messages also in some log file somewhere? My .TEX file is
called test.tex but the test.log file doesn't show these lines.

Met hartelijke groet!

They are the same, except that references, tables of contents etc etc
are now interactive.

This is a 'bug' in pdftex, will be solved soon.

Some people mail me directly probbaly unaware of this list.

Maybe because there is no hacking needed.

No.

Indeed.

I'll look at it. The offset in pdftex has been changed a few time, and I
guess it can be adapted in the cnf file. Unfortunately the current
pdftex offsets don't match the dvi ones well, which is due to the fact
that dvi programs do funny things too.

Ok.

Yes.

Why not -1in?

I'll look at it. The problem is that I have to keep pace with the
changing pdftex syntax.

(There will be a major update soon, with field support etc.)

(In the meantime, did you try:

\stelinteractiein[status=start]
\setupinteraction[state=start]

It may help.

Actually your previous version had crop marks as well, but they were
off the page on three sides (the one in the lower right should have
been visible).

[.....stuff on offsets in pdf files]

Probably Hans knows best about pdftex so it probably makes sense to
ask it here, but there also is a "real" pdftex list, hosted by the
majordomo of tug. Just send a message to majordomo@tug.org with body:

As a subscriber to this list I've only just begun with CONTEXT
and it strikes me how silent this list is. The good news about
it is that you all probably know so much already that there's
not much to ask ;=}

I hope my postings and their frequency is not bugging any of you.

The crop marks have appeared after I changed my input file to be:

\gebruikspecials[tpd]
\stelpapierformaatin[A5][A4]
\stellayoutin[plaats=midden,markering=aan]
\toonkader
\starttekst
testing...
\stoptekst

so the "[plaats=midden," was missing in my earlier try today.

Still, there's a question left, because with this option
on I do see crop marks, but (when creating PDF output) the
page isn't shifted to the middle of the A4 output. The page
is about 2 inch too far to the right and to the bottom so part
of what should be printed is white. There's a white margin of 30mm
on the right of the paper and a white 44mm on the bottom of the
A4 paper wiping out the print.

Remarkably, if I leave out the line "\gebruikspecials[tpd]" and
I only generate DVI output, then there's no problem at all,
the page is nicely centered and the crop marks look great...

I checked out the file PDFTEX.CFG and it has:

******************
output_format 0
compress_level 9
decimal_digits 3
page_width 210mm
page_height 297mm
horigin 1in
vorigin 1in
map pdftex.map
*****************

This suggests the problem is not really a CONTEXT problem,
but to be found in the connection to PDF-tex.
Can I still ask about it here?

If I hack the "horigin" and "vorigin" lines to be

horigin -2mm
vorigin -12.5mm

I can get the page somewhat centered om the larger A4 but then
the sides fall off the white side margins of about 30mm and only
about a millimeter of the the top left crop mark is shown...

Talking to Siep Kroonenberg, I mentioned my problem and she suggested I
comment away the horigin and vorigin lines in PDFTEX.CFG. She offered me a
nifty batchfile going like this (must all be on one line):

pdftex &cont-nl
\pdfoutput=1\pdfpagewidth=8.26in\pdfpageheight=11.69in\pdfcompresslevel=0
\input %1

Now, the A5 is again neatly centered on the A4 page, but still the outer
30mm of the sides of the A4 is white and the top 43 mm is white, same
below, knocking out the left- and rightmost vertical margin lines and also
knocking out the crop marks. Where they should be, there's white.

Any ideas anybody?
